Liguria is a paradise for furry friends. Our guests enthusiastically report how beautiful it is to take long walks with your dog without a leash. Whether through olive groves, in the Ligurian mountains or by the sea.

Nothing stands in the way of a relaxed journey by train. Here you will find all accommodation with good infrastructure and a beach within walking distance and/or very good public transport connections.

We are happy to organise a taxi pick-up from the train station or airport for a relaxed start to your holiday.

Holiday with a dog by the sea - beautiful dog beaches

Public beaches are actually taboo for furry friends in the summer months, but in dog-friendly Liguria there are designated dog beaches in almost every town. Swimming in the sea and romping around by the water is also possible on four legs here. One of the special features of Liguria's landscape is its diversity. Enjoy romantic paths through the olive groves with your four-legged family member or explore the untouched Ligurian mountains. Your dog will certainly enjoy bathing in the hidden spring ponds in the Ligurian hinterland.

Questions & Answers Holiday with a dog

To enter the country, your dog needs an EU pet passport, microchip identification and a valid rabies vaccination.

Unlike other countries, in Italy the aggressiveness of a dog does not depend on whether it belongs to a certain breed or not, but rather on its upbringing and the environment in which it grows up. All dogs are welcome!

At Maremonti you will find many dog-friendly accommodations. The animal paw symbol lets you immediately see which pet-friendly accommodation is suitable. Many of our landlords have a four-legged family member themselves and look forward to your visit. Italy is generally considered to be very dog-friendly.
In Liguria, access for dogs to the beaches is limited from May 1st to September 30th. Public beaches do not allow dogs, while there are special dog beaches that are accessible to four-legged friends. Outside of the bathing season, dogs are allowed anywhere on the beach and can run freely there. In terms of the leash requirement, dogs must generally be kept on a leash in public areas. Some cities have special dog zones or parks where dogs are allowed to run free, but here too it is important to observe local regulations. We always try to provide up-to-date information about the area around the holiday home you have booked.
Dogs must wear a muzzle on public transport. They must also be kept on a short leash or carried in your arms or in a bag. Dogs usually travel for free on buses. Dogs in a transport box are free on trains, otherwise they need a "dog ticket" Biglietto per il cane, which is 50% of the normal travel price.
